LAHORE: National Assembly (NA) will retain its 272 seats but with a change in seats allocation scheme for provinces.
In a meeting, chaired by Ayaz Sadiq, parliamentary leaders proposed a redistribution of seats among provinces without increasing or decreasing the total number of seats in the assembly.
It was decided in the meeting that the number of seats for Punjab would be decreased by nine, seven general and two reserved, whereas seats held by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan would be increased by five and three, respectively.
It was proposed that KP be awarded with four more general seats along with one more reserved seat. Balochistan would hold two more general seats and one more reserved seat whereas Sindh would not witness any change under the proposal.
The number of seats held by Islamabad would be increased by one according to the proposed scheme.
After the meeting, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq told the media that the “decision has been made in principle” to keep all the number of seats in NA retained.
“All agree that the seats should not be increased,” he said.
He further said that the bill would be passed on to the Senate after getting approval from NA.
